Marcela Carvalho from Manhumirim, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

After studying at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music Marcela moved to New York in 1986, where she studied piano at the Manhattan School of Music and painting at the Art Students League .

In 1989 she was invited by the Department of Education from Manhattan to undertake the project entitled The Psychology of Ecology for the City Kids Foundation.
Invited to participate in the 25th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, she also became a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). Conducted workshops in various educational institutions including New York Presbyterian Hospital, Beth Israel Medical Center along with Fashion Fights Cancer and art galleries, one being the renowned Chashama.

Marcela is also author of children’s books “Three Sisters, Three Weddings and One Dress” and “Little Bee And The Roses”.

In 2009, she captivated with this work entitled Sewing The Roses “Costurando As Rosas” the community of Inwood, Jamaica & Harlem, NYC. Portraying the feminine universe Sewing The Roses discusses demographic, socio – cultural issues invoking the themes of freedom and oppression.
